A 22-year-old woman who went missing under water during a scuba-diving class in West Seattle near Seacrest Park on Sunday has died, Seattle police said.

The woman, whom medical investigators have yet to identify, was taken to Harborview Medical Center around 1 p.m. after rescuers searched for her under water, according to the police report for the rescue. She died shortly before 2:40 p.m., the report says.

According to the report, the woman was diving with a partner who told police that Sunday was their second day in the class.

At some point during the dive, the course’s instructor “realized visibility under water was very poor” and signaled to all the students, a total of three, to resurface, according to the report. The students “gave a thumbs up saying that they understood,” the report says.

Only two students resurfaced, the report says.
